HYPOGLYCAEMIA

A hypo can occur suddenly and without warning. If not treated immediately and effectively, this can become a medical emergency.

There is currently no TGA approved complete oral treatment for hypoglycaemia. GDR is researching and developing an evidence-based, new model of delivery for treating hypos.

A new 2 step delivery system will undergo clinical trials to become the only TGA approved, complete oral treatment on the market, for those living with the risk of hypoglycaemia, as a result of the medication they require to manage their diabetes.

INSULIN RESISTANCE

It is current practice to detect prediabetes in those at risk before it progresses to type 2 diabetes. We believe this is too late, and driven by the desire to see better health outcomes and quality of life for those living with or at risk of type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, we believe a point of care (POC) device is needed to provide immediate results at the time of patient consult with GP, or at home using a simple POC device.

A POC medical device is being developed, capable of detecting signs of prediabetes developing up to the 10 years before it can currently be diagnosed.

Evidence indicates this will prevent or prolong prediabetes, gestational diabetes and / or the progression to type 2 diabetes by initiating lifestyle changes, education and timely clinical management.

Safer weight loss, Combat side effects

NUTRITIONAL DEFICIENCIES

Of the 1.3 million people living with type 2 diabetes in Australia, approximately 33% of those are taking GLP-1 weight loss medications. The use of such weight loss drugs (typically used for type 2 diabetes), has become increasingly popular for off-label use, and there are growing concerns around the health risks to people being prescribed these drugs.

Due to the known side effect of a decreased appetite, this class of weight loss drugs can result in extremely rapid weight loss, muscle wastage, and nutritional deficiencies.

There is currently no solution to these side effects, and as such ESME, together with the research from GDR, is currently researching a safe solution to mitigate these extreme side effects.
